Summary: The Privacy Specialist assists Privacy Director in managing, monitoring, investigating, and educating Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) and to ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy Rule. Assists the Privacy Director in identifying Privacy issues as well as implementing and maintaining the Privacy Program.

  • Bachelors (Required)
  • Complexity of Work: Extensive interactions are required with both internal and external individuals at a staff and management level, including the medical staff and patients.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the HIPAA policy and procedures pertaining to HIPAA privacy rules, and Florida State rules.
  • Analytical skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage large volume of documents and correspondence.
  • Excellent reading comprehension, communication skills and the ability to work well with team members and other departments.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and company systems.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently on projects.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of HIPAA/HITECH privacy experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all Request for Amendments, Privacy Incidents investigations, Records Restrictions and Accounting for Disclosures are processed within the time required by Federal and State laws.
  • Assists Privacy Director in activities to foster privacy awareness within the organization and related entities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards and monitors advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
  • Respond to complaints and grievances related to Privacy issues.
  • Assists with running electronic audits and any ongoing department projects.
  • Compile, prepare, review and submit reports of privacy trends.
  • Administers current process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating and taking action on all complaints concerning the organizations privacy policies and procedures in coordination with the Privacy Director.
