The Horizontal Continuous Casting (HCC) Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of aluminum billets at our Sanford, NC facility. Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager, this hands-on leadership position oversees all aspects of the HCC process—from metal transfer and casting to peeling, ultrasonic testing (UT), cutting, and packing. The Supervisor is responsible for maintaining consistent process stability, driving operational excellence, and ensuring full traceability and compliance with quality and safety standards. With active involvement on the shop floor, the role demands strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and leadership to support production goals, resolve disruptions, and foster continuous improvement across the team.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in aluminum horizontal continuous casting operations
  • In-depth knowledge of peeling, ultrasonic testing, cutting, and packing processes
  • Demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting skills in a high-volume manufacturing or foundry environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities
  • Ability to interpret process data, inspection results, and production KPIs
  • Familiarity with quality management systems, traceability protocols, and customer quality requirements
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic setting
  • Physical ability to work in a hot, noisy industrial environment; must be able to stand, walk, bend, stretch, squat, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Willingness to work weekends and off-shifts as required

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily horizontal continuous casting operations, including metal transfer, mold and graphite tooling management, cooling control, puller operation, and cut-to-length processes
  • Maintain optimal casting conditions by monitoring and adjusting metal temperature, casting speed, cooling rates, and tooling integrity
  • Coordinate downstream processes: peeling, ultrasonic testing (UT), cutting, and packing to ensure seamless workflow and quality output
  • Oversee peeling operations with focus on depth-of-cut control, tooling condition, alignment, and yield maximization
  • Ensure UT is conducted per internal procedures and customer specifications; analyze results, identify defect trends, and manage disposition of nonconforming material
  • Monitor cutting accuracy, blade condition, and cut loss to minimize waste and maintain dimensional precision
  • Supervise packing activities to ensure proper bundling, labeling, material protection, and full traceability
  • Maintain complete heat and lot traceability from casting through final packaging
  • Enforce safety protocols related to molten metal handling, equipment operation, saws, UT systems, and material movement
  • Provide direct support during equipment startups, downtime, staffing gaps, or process interruptions
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve technical and operational issues
