About The Position

Responsible for obtaining prior authorization from insurers for medical tests, procedures, surgeries and specialty appointments ordered by the provider. Has understanding of tests, procedures and preparation required prior to testing. Sees that all necessary paperwork and documentation is complete for each procedure. Performs other secretarial duties as the need arises.

  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • If not a Medical Assistant must have 3-6 months experience or Associate's Medical Assistant degree

Responsibilities

  • Obtains preauthorization from insurers for testing, surgery, therapies, subspecialty referral and any other prior authorization required by the patient's insurance carrier
  • Appropriately documents prior authorization and communicates information to the performing facility, physician, clinic staff, and patient or patient's family as necessary
  • Performs other generalized secretarial duties as time allows including, but not limited to: making copies, maintaining incoming and outgoing fax transactions, pulling charts, loose filing, general reception duties and scheduling appointments.
