About The Position

The Print Shop Assistant Manager plays a critical leadership role within the Print & Production department, supporting daily operations, guiding team members, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality printed materials for internal departments, partner practices, and corporate events. This role requires an experienced print production professional who can manage workflow, oversee quality control, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and ensure operational excellence in print production, event preparation, and fulfillment. The Print Shop Assistant Manager acts as the primary support to the Print Shop Manager and serves as the point of contact in their absence. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, technologically skilled, and capable of balancing hands-on production duties with leadership responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; associate degree or relevant technical certifications preferred.
  • 3+ years of print production experience, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role (preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of print production processes, digital presses, UV technology, and finishing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of color theory, calibration, color management systems, and digital workflow.
  • Experience with production scheduling, inventory management, and workflow optimization.
  • Proficiency with desktop publishing tools, RIP software, and Microsoft/Google business applications.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle materials (25–50 lbs).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead, coach, and motivate others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred familiarity with industry-standard print and finishing equipment, including Xerox Iridesse Production Press, Fiery Command WorkStation, Duplo DC-618 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser, Triumph 7260 Cutter, HP PageWide XL Pro 5200, DPB-500 Perfect Binder, and Duplo DF-1300L Folder (or comparable equipment).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Print Shop Manager in overseeing daily print shop operations.
  • Delegate work assignments, monitor progress, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Provide training, feedback, and guidance to print shop staff.
  • Serve as acting manager during absences, ensuring consistent productivity and service levels.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient production environment.
  • Manage production workflow from intake to completion, ensuring accuracy, quality, and efficiency.
  • Operate and maintain digital presses, UV printers, finishing equipment, and other production tools.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinate maintenance, and escalate repair needs as appropriate.
  • Oversee inventory of paper, toner, substrates, and supplies; place replenishment orders when needed.
  • Implement and enforce print standards, color calibration practices, and qualitycontrol checks.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Training, Operations, and other departments to forecast print needs.
  • Prioritize and schedule print jobs according to urgency, deadlines, and production capacity.
  • Support special projects that require complex print applications or tight deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate production logs, job tickets, and scheduling systems.
  • Oversee the preparation of printed materials for training events and conferences.
  • Ensure production of training packets, handouts, signage, presentation materials, and binders.
  • Assist with event-day setup, materials distribution, and logistics when required.
  • Coordinate with the events team to forecast print timelines for trainings and major events.
  • Oversee packaging, labeling, and shipment of printed materials, training kits, and event supplies.
  • Ensure accurate, on-time fulfillment of internal and external orders.
  • Monitor tracking, delivery confirmations, and customer satisfaction for shipped items.
  • Maintain and enhance SOPs for print, shipping, and event-material workflows.
  • Prepare reports on productivity, cost efficiency, supply usage, and job completion.
  • Assist in evaluating new equipment, software, technology, and workflow solutions.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify opportunities for improvement and operational efficiencies.
