Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond? Aftermarket & Sustainment Engineering (ASE) is looking for a Principal Structures Engineer for the Airfoils / IBR Parts Structures team. This position involves analyzing damages to set service & repair limits to ensure they meet original equipment manufacturing (OEM) requirements, supporting customer safety, cost, and reliability objectives. ASE Structures is uniquely linked between the engine development / certification and aftermarket and field support engine life cycles. This results in our analyses has a direct impact on the bottom line of Pratt & Whitney’s maintenance and overhaul revenue. The Senior Structures Engineer closely interacts with fellow ASE engineers from structures, design, project, and program, along with other module center engineers from the CIPT and design metallurgy, among others, to develop technical data to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost requirements. Responsible for the structural assessments of repairs to commercial engine hot and cold section rotating components. Knowledge of Integrated Product Development (IPD), Structures Engineering Knowledge System (EKS), and the Product Design Review process. Coordinate structural analysis requirements for repairs with other ASE technical disciplines and module centers/ Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs). Provide technical coaching and mentoring to entry level and earlier career structures engineers. Participate on multi-disciplinary teams to provide design solutions that meet design and life requirements. Work independently on structural analysis solutions when historical solutions are not available or applicable. Analysis may include both classical methods and/or detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Coordinate with others to advance the technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods, plus document and present results to management and customers. Primary focal for structural analysis memos (SAMs) and provide structures review/approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and 8+ years of experience in mechanical, aerospace, or structural engineering or an Advanced Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of experience.
  • Fluent in ANSYS or other FEA software.
  • US citizenship is required due to government program requirements
  • 10% Travel

Nice To Haves

  • Awareness of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of High cycle fatigue (HCF), low cycle fatigue (LCF) and fracture analysis theory and applications.
  • Experience using Pratt & Whitney/industry lifing systems: PWLIFE, ARLS, or crack growth (SURCK, Darwin, Franc3D) systems a plus.
  • Background in turbomachinery.
