About The Position

The Principle Global Commodity Manager position is responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and delivering savings and benefits for our organization. This individual will identify strategic suppliers in the power generation equipment space and lead cross-functional evaluations to determine the best overall supplier product fit for the Mitsubishi Power Turbine solution. This individual will recommend and work with internal groups to implement strategic supplier agreements, partnerships, or potential investments in coordination with business approval processes. Main commodity focus for this individual is HRSG’s and other gas turbine exhaust systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (MBA preferred)
  • 10+ years supplier contract experience or 15+ years commodity buying experience.
  • Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, engineering drawings, engineering specifications for material, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.
  • Proficiency in standard business software and basic database tools.
  • Leadership experience including delegation, coordination, and team communication to global sourcing staff.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States permanently without requiring employer sponsorship.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Support and execute the 5‑year supplier ecosystem strategy, ensuring supplier capacity and capability align with business needs and partner requirements.
  • Develop, manage, and strengthen relationships with advanced technology suppliers in the power generation industry—especially HRSGs, gas turbine exhaust systems, and other auxiliary equipment—while monitoring current and emerging technologies.
  • Lead cross‑functional supplier evaluations, including assessments of technical fit, manufacturing capacity, quality, risk, cost competitiveness, and intellectual property considerations.
  • Serve as the liaison between strategic suppliers and internal teams (sales, commercial operations, project management, engineering) as supplier products are integrated into Mitsubishi Power solutions.
  • Analyze market research, spend data, supplier performance, and stakeholder input to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and to support sourcing decisions and commodity strategies; communicate insights using clear reporting and visualization tools.
  • Drive cost‑reduction initiatives, standardization efforts, and supplier development projects to improve cost, lead time, and overall value.
  • Negotiate contracts and commercial agreements, balancing supplier relationships with achieving competitive terms, resolving issues, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Identify, qualify, and bid technically complex commodities, evaluating vendors based on price, quality, technical capability, and delivery requirements.
  • Review long‑range forecasts to develop commodity and procurement strategies that meet future equipment and supply needs.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally, engaging stakeholders across procurement, engineering, operations, and other business units to align goals, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead performance and governance for assigned commodities, establishing goals, monitoring performance, ensuring accountability, and promoting procurement excellence.
  • Conduct supply chain and risk analyses, developing plans to mitigate risk and support supply continuity.
  • Monitor supplier capacity and develop capacity plans in coordination with buyers.
  • Resolve supplier and supply chain issues in partnership with buyers and the broader supply chain team.
  • Develop, evaluate, and refine complex technical and commercial bids, ensuring proper stakeholder review and alignment.
  • Prepare and manage bid invitations and RFPs, analyze responses, and support award recommendations.
  • Establish and manage blanket purchase agreements, including contract terms, value thresholds, and durations.
  • May lead or supervise team members, supporting their development and performance.
  • Participate in developing specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials.
