About The Position

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line. As a Global Commodity Manager, you will develop commodity strategies and execute on them. You will lead cross-functional teams through the supplier selection process for new platforms/components. You will conduct business discussions and secure comprehensive agreements with suppliers. You'll maintain a high level of industry expertise and supplier/market conditions, and manage supplier performance in cost, quality, delivery, and technology alignment. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing technology, category or commodity management, agreement negotiation and supplier development.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or Master's degree in a technical or engineering field.
  • 10 years of commodity management or supply chain management experience in the data center/mission critical industry.
  • Knowledge of the supply base for DRAM (dynamic random access memory).
  • Knowledge of various DRAM (dynamic random access memory) technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams to drive the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) standard server memory technologies such as DDR5 RDIMMs, MRDIMMs, etc., as needed by various processor based server systems, at key memory suppliers.
  • Navigate the supply chain of server memory modules used in data centers.
  • Maintain a level of industry and technology expertise as well as supplier and market conditions.
  • Understand semiconductor structures and be conversant with developing models and develop and execute sourcing and pricing strategies for server memory.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance in technology alignment, cost, quality, and delivery, agreements, and implement supply chain improvements.
