What You Will Do: The Principal Engineer, Project Engineering will be responsible for overseeing and improving designs, manufacturing, and engine test processes for legacy and new production Military APU products within the Fighter & Mobility Auxiliary Power Unit and Turbojet business group, with a keen focus on improving cost, quality, and efficiency. This position is senior level combining both extensive technical knowledge, high-level problem solving, mentoring responsibilities and ensuring complex engine power systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with all regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 8+ years of relevant experience or 5+ yrs with an advanced Degree in a related field
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Travel 20% max – to corporate/module centers, customers, supplier visits

Nice To Haves

  • (Siemens) Teamcenter, (MS) Project, (MS) PowerPoint and (MS) Excel experience as well as Agile development methodology
  • Extensive project engineering or program management experience including system integration and test management working across a highly matrixed organization, including team members, suppliers, and customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to handle complex technical information
  • Specific experience in gas turbine engine operations, control systems, and integration
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulations and FAA certification standards for aerospace propulsion systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex, interdisciplinary projects related to auxiliary and small turbojet engine systems including scheduling, budgeting, and ensuring deliverables meet required specifications. The Principal Engineer will often represent the organization in technical exchanges with external personnel and customers.
  • Monitor and assess project issues; develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) and advisor to engineering leadership on significant technical issues. This includes leading root cause investigations and analysis for engine /engine component failures and identifying effective corrective actions.
  • Lead and coordinate the testing of auxiliary and turbojet engine systems including performance and certification testing to ensure compliance with all regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Engage with Procurement and Strategic Sourcing to ensure the timely, cost effective, and high-quality delivery of hardware through the established Supply Chain.
  • Lead support of fielded production and legacy engine systems by developing timely responses to customer queries and Action Item requests.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives including the recording and transfer of developed knowledge, establish best practices, and implement new tools and technologies to meet department objectives.
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced engineers and lead cross functional technical teams with a commitment to developing junior engineers and assisting engineering leadership with staff competency assessments and proficiency development.
