To learn more, visit www.blueowl.com The Role: Blue Owl is looking for a Principal / Vice President to join its Legal team. This role will be based in New York or Short Hills, NJ and provide support for Private Wealth and Institutional Business Development teams and their fund-raising efforts across Blue Owl’s Credit, GP Capital Solutions and Real Estate platforms. The ideal candidate is a highly detail-oriented and organized individual who can manage multiple projects and who is excited about being part of a Legal team that covers a broad range of issues. We are looking for candidates who are intellectually curious and interested in the intersection of law, technology, and finance.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience working in-house at an asset management firm or a law firm with a focus on fund distribution arrangements.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • At least one active bar membership/license to practice law in any state
  • Demonstrated drive for results and ability to prioritize risks and projects to focus on what’s important in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Excellent planning and organization skills; meticulous attention to detail is a must
  • Strong working knowledge of Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Solutions-oriented problem solver
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to roll up sleeves to get things done
  • Team player with enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity to learn more

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of broker-dealer regulation and FINRA rules a plus

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate placement agreements, distribution agreements, and other related legal documents with placement agents, brokers, FinTech platforms and other intermediaries.
  • Advise on fund distribution arrangements across various fund structures including private funds, business development companies, registered closed end funds and non-traded REITs.
  • Review distribution arrangements with a view to ensuring compliance with relevant securities laws, including the Investment Advisers Act, Investment Company Act, and other applicable laws in various jurisdictions.
  • Laise with local counsel as needed in multiple jurisdictions, including Europe, Asia, and Latin America, to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Work closely and develop strong working relationships and with internal stakeholders including compliance, operations, and product management.
  • Stay current on legal developments related to fund distribution and securities regulation, advising the firm on potential impacts and necessary actions.
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities for the Legal team
