About The Position

Principal Technical Accountant Overview We are seeking a Principal Technical Accountant to support our accounting organization across general ledger operations, internal controls, and complex accounting matters. This role will contribute hands-on accounting expertise while partnering closely with existing accounting leadership and team members to ensure accurate, compliant, and scalable financial reporting. This position is well-suited for candidates who are currently in public accounting and exploring a transition to industry, as well as those who bring a mix of public accounting and industry experience. Public accounting experience is required, while prior industry experience is helpful but not required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA required (or actively pursuing)
  • 5+ years of accounting experience with required public accounting experience at a Big 4 or large national firm
  • Candidates may be currently in public accounting, or May have a combination of public accounting and industry experience
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting fundamentals
  • Experience supporting audits, internal controls, and SOX-related processes
  • Ability to clearly document accounting conclusions and communicate effectively with stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Prior industry experience in a GL, close, or technical accounting role
  • Exposure to complex accounting topics
  • Experience working in a growing or evolving accounting environment
  • Familiarity with ERP systems; exposure to Workday Financials is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support monthly and quarterly close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Serve as a resource to the accounting team for complex or unusual transactions
  • Help ensure financial statements are complete, accurate, and prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Apply U.S. GAAP to routine and non-routine transactions, exercising sound accounting judgment
  • Assist with research and documentation for accounting topics as needed, including preparation or review of accounting memos and policy documentation
  • Provide practical accounting input on new transactions, contracts, and business initiatives in partnership with accounting leadership
  • Support the documentation, operation, and ongoing improvement of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Participate in SOX walkthroughs and testing in coordination with internal and external auditors
  • Assist in identifying process gaps and opportunities to strengthen controls and efficiency
  • Partner with accounting leadership and cross-functional teams to improve accounting processes and documentation
  • Contribute to the development of scalable, repeatable accounting practices as the organization continues to grow
  • Provide informal guidance and support to other accounting team members, as appropriate
