This position will understand and define customer needs; product functionality and performance requirements; product architecture, constraints and trade-offs; design and interface requirements, of new products being developed. You will support the overall design of the final product and responsible for all risk management activities to ensure a safe and effective product. The team in R&D work together to develop, test, and launch products to improve patient care. A Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for development of products and providing creative solutions associated with the design, development, and sustaining engineering for our new and existing product portfolio. The successful candidate will possess solid “hands-on” technical abilities, an excitement and energy for product development, and a passion for their work and the impact it has on meeting the needs of patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering or comparable technical subject area)
  • 5+ years of engineering experience including fundamental understanding of Hardware, Software and application engineering
  • Knowledge in ISO 14971 Application of Risk Management to Medical Devices where applicable
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work collaboratively with others multi-functionally team environment
  • Ability to work in the absence of complete information and make timely decisions
  • Strategic problem solver and can execute with excellent attention to detail
  • Organization & ability to progress on many different tasks in parallel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Responsibilities

  • Interact with all business and customer stakeholders to understand their problems and needs.
  • Translate customer needs, business constraints, and regulatory requirements into product functional and performance system requirements
  • Lead the engineering team through the development of system architecture options.
  • Objectively and communicate tradeoffs during the architecture selection process
  • Applying, systems engineering skills to drive a holistic approach to systems development and design.
  • Development of and participation in internal and external research opportunities as it relates to new technologies or innovation projects.
  • Apply Systems and Design thinking principles to guide development of Agile innovation process.
  • Conduct risk management activities including planning, risk analysis, risk evaluation and control.
  • Decompose and allocate system level requirements into module level requirements
  • Plan and oversee reliability and robustness activities
  • Leads cross-functional teams, works directly with platform architects and other leaders to drive work to completion and resolve issues.
  • Successfully influences stakeholders.
  • Communicates effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • Keeps leadership informed of progress and issues.
  • Lead the technical team through technical risk identification and management as well as issue and test defect resolution
  • Ensure changes are analyzed holistically and impacts are fully understood
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments as applicable.
