About The Position

The Surface Supply Chain organization is responsible for delivering the right products to customers at the right time, cost, and quality—supporting a global, highly complex hardware portfolio. We partner closely across Product, Engineering, Finance, and Operations to plan, build, and deliver Surface devices through demand planning, supply execution, materials management, and logistics. The Principal Supply Chain Architect is responsible for designing, evolving, and scaling end‑to‑end supply chain processes, systems, and data architectures to enable resilient, efficient, and insight‑driven operations. This role operates at the intersection of business strategy, process design, data analytics, and technology—translating complex signals into clear insights and action‑oriented decision support across demand, supply, materials, logistics, and reverse flows. The Principal Supply Chain Architect partners closely with the leaders, planners, engineering, and analytics teams to define target‑state architectures, simplify complex workflows, and embed advanced analytics, scenario modeling, and AI‑assisted decisioning into core supply chain operations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics or related field AND 8+ years supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, Data Analytics, Sales & Operations Planning, material requirement planning systems and tools, quantitative & qualitative analysis in cross functional or organizational enterprise environment, or related experience
  • OR Master's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 6+ years supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, Data Analytics, Sales & Operations Planning, material requirement planning systems and tools, quantitative & qualitative analysis in cross functional or organizational enterprise environment, or related experience
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep knowledge of supply chain fundamentals, and proven experience designing or transforming end‑to‑end supply chain processes, systems, and data architectures at scale
  • Experience leveraging AI/ML tools to analyze complex datasets and translate ambiguous business problems into structured insights, clear recommendations, and scalable solutions.
  • Demostrated analytical and systems thinking, with the ability to connect strategy, process, data, and technology to drive measurable business impact.
  • Experience in large‑scale supply chain transformation or digital modernization programs.

  • Background partnering closely with engineering, data science, or platform teams.
  • Experience working in complex, global supply chains with multiple products and regions.

Responsibilities

  • Define the target‑state architecture for end‑to‑end supply chain processes, spanning demand planning, supply planning, materials, logistics, and reverse operations.
  • Partner with LT to translate business strategy and operational priorities into scalable, data‑enabled process and system designs.
  • Identify gaps, redundancies, and inefficiencies in current‑state processes, systems, and data flows, and define clear modernization roadmaps grounded in measurable outcomes.
  • Lead the design of standardized, modular supply chain processes that enable agility, scalability, and repeatability.
  • Partner across teams to re‑imagine workflows, decision rights, and operating rhythms, ensuring decisions are supported by the right data at the right time.
  • Drive simplification and harmonization across regions, products, and segments, with a focus on reducing manual intervention and increasing signal‑to‑action speed.
  • Architect how supply chain processes are enabled through systems, planning tools, and analytics platforms, ensuring strong alignment between process, data, and technology.
  • Define end‑to‑end data architectures—including data models, integration points, and governance—to ensure high‑quality, trusted, decision‑ready data.
  • Partner with engineering and analytics teams to design AI‑assisted and advanced analytics capabilities, including forecasting, scenario modeling, constraint analysis, and trade‑off evaluation.
  • Enable insight‑driven planning and execution by translating complex analytical outputs into clear, intuitive, and actionable insights for planners and executives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to drive adoption of new processes, tools, and analytics‑driven ways of working.
  • Provide clear documentation, narratives, and executive‑level storytelling that connects data, insights, and business outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on supply chain transformation, modernization, and data‑driven decision maturity.
