Discover opportunities to make a difference at RTX. The Datalinks integrated product team is seeking a driven individual to join our team in Cedar Rapids Iowa. This engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of portions of our manufacturing line as well as taking a lead role in continuous improvement initiatives. This Industrial Engineer will provide technical support to Operations for aerospace electronics manufacturing processes, including circuit card assembly, electronic sub-assemblies, and top-level radio integration. This role drives process improvements, supports daily production needs, and partners with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, predictable, and efficient build processes that meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements. This role offers a blend of independent initiative and teamwork, collaborating closely with manufacturing engineers, production personnel, management, and support organizations. Located onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA, you'll play a crucial role in shaping our operational excellence and innovation. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Experience in an aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of electronics assembly processes (SMT, hand solder, reflow, sub-assembly build, adhesives, conformal coatings)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time studies, capacity analysis, and process optimization
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Experience in Solidworks, CAD, or similar programs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting factory operations in a high-mix, low-volume environment
  • Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain manufacturing process documentation including standard work, process flows, layouts, and work instructions
  • Perform labor time studies, capacity modeling, and bottleneck analysis to support staffing plans, factory readiness, and production rate increases
  • Lead and support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities using structured problem-solving tools and data analysis
  • Monitor performance metrics (yield, defects, productivity, cycle time) to identify improvement opportunities across CCA, sub-assembly, and radio-level production
  • Partner with design engineering to drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) improvements and ensure manufacturing requirements are incorporated into new designs and changes
  • Support capital equipment planning, evaluation, and implementation for electronics manufacturing processes (e.g., soldering, reflow, AOI, coating)
  • Lead Lean/continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve flow in a high-mix, low-volume environment
  • Ensure compliance with applicable aerospace and electronics standards (e.g., AS9100, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
