Our Platform Engineering teams provide the cloud-native foundation for all Zillow products by abstracting away complex technologies such as Kubernetes, service mesh, cloud networking, and storage. This work enables our engineers to ship new features rapidly and confidently, with strong reliability and security, so product teams can focus on delivering maximum value to customers navigating some of life’s biggest decisions. About the role As a Principal Product Manager for Platform Engineering, you will define and drive the product vision and strategy for our internal platform offerings, advancing the capabilities that power every Zillow product experience. You will combine strong product sense with technical fluency to balance risk, governance, cost, reliability, performance, and developer experience as you make decisions that shape how engineers build at Zillow. You will join a broader community of Platform Product Managers and partner closely with teams such as Developer Experience, Data Platform, and Security, ensuring Platform Engineering focuses on the most impactful opportunities and delivers measurable outcomes that move us closer to Zillow’s vision.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience, ideally building large-scale internal platforms or developer-facing products that impact broad parts of an organization.
  • Proven ability to use data and insights to navigate ambiguous problem spaces and translate them into clear outcomes, priorities, and actionable roadmaps.
  • Track record of delivering complex, cross-team initiatives while balancing operational realities, customer needs, and engineering constraints, including governance and security considerations across the software development life cycle.
  • Strong communicator who collaborates effectively with engineers as both teammates and customers, influencing without authority and securing buy-in from diverse stakeholders across the organization.
  • Deep understanding of the end-to-end developer journey and how platform capabilities, paved paths, and tooling shape developer experience and productivity.
  • Solid grasp of the cloud-native ecosystem and modern cloud architectures, and the ability to apply that knowledge to platform product decisions.
  • Curiosity about emerging trends in AI-native engineering and agentic software development, and how they can unlock new capabilities for internal platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategic direction and vision for Platform Engineering, ensuring objectives align with Zillow’s mission and business goals.
  • Drive the end-to-end platform product roadmap—from discovery through launch and iteration—grounded in clear problem statements, defined success metrics, and customer- and business-driven prioritization.
  • Build deep empathy for internal developer customers and champion intuitive, reliable platforms that remove friction from their workflows.
  • Balance and prioritize trade-offs across cost, reliability, compliance, security, and developer experience in partnership with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Lead product rollouts and enablement to drive adoption of Platform Engineering offerings, using feedback loops and metrics to continuously improve and demonstrate business value.
  • Partner with organizations such as Developer Experience, Data Platform, and Security to ensure platform strategy and roadmaps address shared requirements and unlock cross-org outcomes.
  • Actively evangelize Platform Engineering best practices and paved paths across Zillow, helping teams discover, adopt, and benefit from standardized solutions.
