Upstart is the leading AI lending marketplace partnering with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit. By leveraging Upstart's AI marketplace, Upstart-powered banks and credit unions can have higher approval rates and lower loss rates across races, ages, and genders, while simultaneously delivering the exceptional digital-first lending experience their customers demand. More than 80% of borrowers are approved instantly, with zero documentation to upload. Upstart is a digital-first company, which means that most Upstarters live and work anywhere in the United States. However, we also have offices in San Mateo, California; Columbus, Ohio; Austin, Texas; and New York City, NY (opening Summer 2026). Most Upstarters join us because they connect with our mission of enabling access to effortless credit based on true risk. If you are energized by the impact you can make at Upstart, we’d love to hear from you! The Team: The Auto Lending team at Upstart is responsible for delivering the absolute best auto lending experience in the world, without compromise. Upstart’s mission is “effortless credit based on true risk” and the “effortless” is where you come in. As the Senior Product Manager - Automation, you’ll strip away friction from the hardest parts of auto lending: borrower verifications, document signing, Ops reviews, and servicing. You’ll make an industry-leading user experience even better, and in the process you’ll drive down costs. Those cost savings are then used to provide even better offers for our borrowers. You’ll drive the strategic direction for this work, using a combination of emerging technology, process improvement, and vendor management. You’ll work closely with UX designers, data analysts, finance analysts, legal and compliance experts, and our Operations team. You’re a sleuth for the truth. You have unending curiosity about why things are done a certain way, and how we might improve them. You aren’t satisfied with “we’ve always done it this way”. You find it rewarding to squeeze inefficiency out of a system.

  • Deeply understand the needs of our borrowers, Operations teams, and capital partners
  • Define a strategy on how we’ll improve the experience for borrowers (and in the process drive down cost for the business) in a traditionally labor-intensive process
  • Partner with engineering, design, product leaders across Upstart, legal, operations, analytics, and compliance teams to gather requirements and ensure solutions meet business needs and regulatory standards
  • Identify, track, and obsess over metrics that represent the efficiency of our processes
  • 4+ years of product management experience on fast-moving, consumer-obsessed teams
  • Strong product sense. You have independently authored and executed on a multi-quarter roadmap, and have been around to see the consequences (good and bad) of your decisions.
  • Rigorous and analytical problem solving; well structured, concise, and highly effective communication.
  • Ownership and growth mindset. You act like an owner. You’re often right, but humble and open minded about being wrong. You’re perpetually dissatisfied and striving to improve yourself and the team.
  • Experience building products in fintech or consumer lending
  • Experience with KYC/KYB or verifications, especially with AI automation
  • Experience with cost optimization, vendor negotiation, and/or process design
  • Competitive Compensation (base + bonus & equity)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with Health Savings Account contributions from Upstart
  • 401(k) with 100% company match up to $4,500 and immediate vesting and after-tax savings
