About The Position

As a Principal Mining Engineer, you play a crucial role in developing and communicating strategies across all levels of the organization. Your expertise in long-term planning for new mine development and life-of-mine reserve calculations for current operations and future reserves is vital. You are responsible for generating multi-million-dollar cost savings through mine plan optimization over the mine life. Your leadership in ore quality, optimization, and cost savings is integral to the P4 Optimization Team. You optimize mine plans and schedules, focusing on ore recovery, waste stripping, haulage profiles, disturbance area, environmental impact, and economics. Your ability to analyze and model 2D and 3D data, interpret geology, and produce various models is essential for successful mine design and production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering;
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the mining industry;
  • Working knowledge of mining and heavy equipment operations;
  • Working knowledge of mining reclamation and remediation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate strategies to all levels;
  • Conduct long-term planning for new mine development;
  • Calculate life-of-mine reserves for current operations and future reserves;
  • Generate cost savings through mine plan optimization;
  • Provide subject matter expertise at all levels;
  • Lead efforts in ore quality, optimization, and cost savings as part of the P4 Optimization Team;
  • Optimize mine plans and schedules, including ore recovery, waste stripping, haulage profiles, disturbance area, environmental impact, and economics;
  • Analyze and model 2D and 3D data, interpret geology, and produce 3D geologic models, design and topographic models, production models, and economic models;
  • Produce mine designs utilizing 3D geologic and topographic models, rock stability data, environmental limitations, and economic analysis;
  • Develop detailed plans for roads, water management systems, stockpiles, excavations, overburden placement, cover and liner designs, etc.;
  • Create ore production schedules including tonnage and chemistry;
  • Develop construction schedules;
  • Build and maintain databases including geologic and exploration data, topographic survey data, mineral reserves, production data, water management, and other environmental data;
  • Occasionally participate in interdisciplinary problem-solving teams to develop solutions to large engineering challenges such as ore arsenic and underflow solids future management.
