About The Position

We are hiring a Principal Middleware Engineer to drive the strategy, architecture, and delivery of middleware platform-centric capabilities at scale. This senior role will lead development and architecture of modern deployment capabilities within Middleware environments including Messaging, API Gateways, Caching, Web/App Servers, BPM, Proxies, etc. They will lead major platform modernization efforts that focus on cloud and Kubernetes build of all Middleware services, leveraging infrastructure as code. The role is intended to deliver capabilities via infrastructure automation and pipeline-based builds: test case automation, control automation, security automation, and self-service automation. In parallel, this role will be working closely within the Middleware teams to clarify functional and non-functional requirements for their platforms, and to deliver those capabilities via automation. The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical leadership across the entire Middleware Services ecosystem.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field
  • Fifteen+ years of experience in software development or a related field
  • Fifteen+ years of experience in database technologies
  • Fifteen+ years of experience working on project(s) involving the implementation of solutions applying development life cycles (SDLC)

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Computer Science or related field
  • Twelve+ years of IT experience developing and implementing business systems leveraging Middleware platforms.
  • Infrastructure as code skills leveraging Gitlab based pipelines.
  • Advanced automation skills in Terraform and/or Ansible.
  • Amazon (AWS) experience.
  • 5+ years Messaging experience.
  • 5+ years software development experience
  • 3+ year of Kubernetes experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation on business requirements and functional specifications in logical program designs, code modules, stable application systems, and software solutions designed around Middleware; facilitates the transition to high level design and supports the project lifecycle with input from executive leadership where needed.
  • Contributes to and leverages the technical direction for the development, configuration, or modification of integrated business and/or enterprise middleware solutions within various computing environments by providing insight and guidance for the design and coding of Middleware infrastructure.
  • Build declarative Middleware platforms that are consumed as code-Helm charts, reusable templates, and GitOps-driven platform definitions integrated with CI/CD workflows.
  • Proven ability to build shared platform services and self-service middleware capabilities used by multiple product teams.
  • Serves as a technical expert for project teams throughout the implementation and maintenance of business and enterprise software solutions by leveraging partnerships with technology teams and business leaders to resolve escalated issues.
  • Offers expertise in troubleshooting complex systems integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT) for cross-functional application initiatives.
  • Provides consultation to help ensure new and existing software solutions are developed throughout the product lifecycle with insight into industry best practices, strategies, and architectures.
  • Has detailed knowledge of software architecture; makes technical trade-offs between short-term team needs and long-term business needs; determines how to apply and/or reuse technologies across different areas of the company.
  • Sets the standard for engineering, test, and operational excellence, drives best practices across organizations; builds proof-of-concepts (POC) and proof-of-technologies (POT).
  • Solves significantly complex or endemic problems; architectures are exemplary in terms of robustness, stability, scalability, cost effectiveness.
  • Mentors and advises others, sharing an in-depth understanding of company and industry methodologies, policies, standards, and controls.
  • Provides expert recommendations and input on options, risks, costs, and benefits for software solution designs and identifies specific interfaces and methods required to support software solutions.
