The Mission Critical Products organization is seeking a Principal Hardware Design Engineer to serve as the Hardware Technical Lead and Product Owner for complex embedded electronic systems. This role provides architectural ownership, technical authority, and end-to-end accountability for hardware development from requirements definition through production release. The successful candidate will drive hardware architecture, detailed design, verification, compliance, and cross-functional execution while contributing to technical risk, cost, and schedule performance.

Requirements

  • Experience with Test Equipment/Tools, Technical Reviews and Production Readiness
  • Experience giving technical briefings or presentations
  • Experience leading Hardware teams
  • Experience with ASIC development practices
  • Experience with complex embedded hardware development
  • Expertise in Mixed-signal and high-speed digital design (DDR, SERDES, Ethernet, PCIe), FPGA and processor-based architecture, Power conversion and regulation, Signal integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, and reliability engineering
  • Experience leading full lifecycle hardware development through production
  • Knowledge of GPS/navigation system test methodology, requirements, and methods
  • Knowledge and experience with GPS hardware or RF receiver anti-jam techniques
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • Active and transferable SECRET clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in regulated or safety-environments
  • Familiarity with hardware assurance standards (e.g., DO-254 or equivalent)
  • Highly experienced supporting design reviews and formal technical reviews
  • Agile development and proficiency/product owner/Scrum Master trained

Responsibilities

  • Define and own system-level hardware architecture aligned to subsystem hardware requirements
  • Lead schematic design of mixed-signal, high-speed digital, FPGA/processor-based, and power electronics systems
  • Drive component selection, signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal, and reliability considerations
  • Oversee PCB layout guidance for multi-layer, high-speed designs
  • Develop hardware verification strategies and ensure full requirements traceability
  • Lead board bring-up, integration, debugging, and root cause analysis
  • Support environmental, EMI/EMC, qualification, and compliance testing
  • Ensure disciplined configuration control and change management
  • Serve as hardware technical authority and primary interface to Systems, Software, Quality, customer and Program Management
  • Own hardware scope, schedule, and technical risk
  • Lead design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) and compliance support activities
  • Mentor engineers and establish hardware design standards and best practices
