Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors Center is seeking Principal Systems Engineers interested in ocean engineering. Our Portsmouth, RI team primarily supports programs in the naval undersea and naval surface domains, including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture/integration. In this role, you will serve as a trusted technical expert and key leader, assisting in solving complex challenges while ensuring the team operates effectively and efficiently. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with oversight of technical work and ensuring project requirements are met with accuracy and precision. You will act as a collaborative partner reviewing work, and contributing to the development of innovative procedures, processes, and standards to improve team performance. You will help to ensure that systems are built, tested, and deployed seamlessly while supporting the team leader in achieving overall project goals. Each day will bring unique challenges that require teamwork, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and innovative problem-solving. What You Will Learn After completion of comprehensive on-the-job training, the candidate will be a part of a team supporting Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) activities across the product development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with EVMS (Earned Value Management Value System).
  • Experience with underwater acoustics analysis, sensor systems, and/or naval system development.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required on day 1

  • Hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge as a subject matter expert in systems engineering or a closely related field, providing technical guidance and driving successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted technical expert and key leader, supporting the team leader in managing daily operations and ensuring team effectiveness
  • Support/develop key engineering activities, including underwater acoustics analysis, system requirements development, hardware/software integration, test plan creation, debugging, and system performance evaluation.
  • Assist in overseeing technical work, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
  • Overcome obstacles by proactively identifying potential roadblocks, negotiating changes to ensure project success, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to drive alignment and resolve conflicts.
  • Evaluate vendor contracts, procurement strategies, and operational efficiencies to optimize spending, while identifying financial needs for projects or operations to ensure alignment with overall strategy, and addressing variances between actual and planned spending through corrective actions.
  • Travel, domestic, to support customer events, with an expected travel requirement not exceeding 15%.
