About The Position

The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at Solano Avenue Elementary towards academic success. Solano Avenue Elementary serves about 190 students in grades TK-6th grade, students comprised of predominantly Hispanic (39%), Black (13%), Asian (25%), White (21%). We also have a large growing Russian and Kazakh families. 22% English Learners; 18% Students with Disabilities; and 20% identified as gifted and talented. This school is located at 615 Solano Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012 Solano was named a Blue Ribbon school in 2009 and earned Distinguished School status in 1996, 2000, 2006, 2012, and 2020. Also, in 2020 it was recognized as an ESEA National School along with a Pivotal Practice school in 2022. Additionally, Solano is a Leader in Me Lighthouse School for the past 8 years. This is an honor that is based on high academic achievement and providing genuine leadership opportunities for our students. Solano's school vision is to create, “a community of empowered learners, innovative thinkers and courageous leaders”. This reflects Solano's commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment that promotes academic excellence and prepares all students to be self-motivated, lifelong learners and leaders. Mastering California Common Core Standards, integrating real-world technology skills and celebrating the rich, cultural diversity of the Solano community all play a prominent role in the daily workings of the school. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:is a principal that is collaborative, willing to engage in the diverse make-up of Solano, and have a strong sense of equity for all students. A strong ability to nurture and grow our community & parent partnerships (City National Bank, Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee, Solano PTA, Los Angeles Dodgers) to bring additional resources to our students. Will have knowledge of guidelines and expectations of Common Core State Standards, LAUSD School Leadership Framework, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, English Learner Master Plan, Special Education, GATE expectations, and the District’s Strategic Plan; the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development at all levels of personnel; experience working collaboratively with all stakeholders and demonstrate professionalism and respectful interactions; willingness to delegate responsibilities as they relate to our school’s climate; strong and effective planning and organizational skills; the ability to work independently; excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; the ability to interpret data to inform decisions and develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; and the ability to support a successful positive school-wide behavior plan that is aligned to the Leader in Me. The ideal candidate will believe in a multidisciplinary approach; and will support equity, elevating student voice and agency, along with providing authentic ways for students to demonstrate their leadership abilities.

Requirements

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • Multicultural coursework
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • District Master Plan requirements
  • For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.
