The Ipswich Public Schools seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and visionary educator to lead our Winthrop School, a PreK-Grade 5 school. Successful candidates will be able to articulate a vision of alignment and equity, team building, and mutual support across both schools. The successful candidates will possess effective communication skills and have a strong knowledge in the following areas: educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, educational technology, supervision and staff evaluation. Job Description: Educational Leadership The principal: Leads the school stakeholders in articulating a shared mission and vision for the school Provides encouragement and support for teachers to try new things Holds teachers accountable for high standards and expectations for all students Participates in and contributes to the district’s leadership team Models ethical behavior and promotes an atmosphere of respect Ensures the implementation of school system policy Works with the school council to develop an annual school improvement plan Ensures coordination with other grade levels and buildings Maintains a school climate where teaching and learning proceeds uninterrupted, and students feel safe and welcome in school Ensures equity for all and values diversity in the school environment Promotes and participates in a culture of ongoing and embedded professional collaboration Celebrates building and school district successes Promotes a culture that encourages diverse student engagement opportunities including athletics, fine arts, clubs, and community service Curriculum and Instruction The principal: Motivates teachers to achieve the most effective instruction Supports the implementation of active learning through curriculum development and professional development Directs ongoing curriculum planning, coordination, and evaluation Consults and works with the Director of Teaching and Learning regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional collaboration Consults and works with the Director of Special Education regarding accommodations and interventions for students and coordinates the delivery of special education services with the Director Organizes time for instruction efficiently and effectively Implements an effective monitoring system for our Curriculum and Instruction Program Ensures that the learning needs of all students are met Leads in the development of student assessment strategies and staff training in the area of assessment Supports teacher collaboration and curriculum development revision Promotes and models the effective use of appropriate instructional technologies Support teacher leaders in curriculum development and effective instruction and inter-disciplinary work Supports vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment Supports effective teacher collaboration Organizational Leadership The principal: Hires, supervises, evaluates, and terminates school personnel Works with the district leadership team to plan and facilitate change Works collaboratively with school stakeholders in decision making Supervises and evaluates the performance of teachers and other staff using performance standards to identify areas for growth Ensures maintenance of the building and grounds Demonstrates communication skills that are clear, direct, respectful and responsive Prepares and administers the budget by applying current knowledge of fiscal management policy and practices within the scope of responsibility.
