About The Position

At Roche and Genentech, we are driven to advance science to ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need. Our Oceanside facility is a world-class, multi-product CHO drug substance manufacturing site. We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as the site's Subject Matter Expert (SME) and system owner for all electrical infrastructure. In this role, you will provide the technical expertise necessary to support the design, installation, commissioning, and validation of electrical and utility systems. You will be the frontline technical consultant, ensuring zero business disruptions by maintaining the reliability of our process and building systems.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (Electrical) with 8+ years of applicable electrical engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry working within GMP environments
  • Expertise in the design and operation of electrical systems (power, signal, lighting) for large technical facilities like laboratories or hospitals.
  • Familiarity with 15 kV emergency generators, main distribution switchgear, and site distribution
  • Experience integrating vendor PLC/skid controls into SCADA or building automation systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, central plant systems, and cleanroom technology.

Responsibilities

  • System Ownership: Act as the site Electrical SME and owner of the electrical business process, providing direction for maintaining all electrical infrastructure.
  • Project Leadership: Develop timelines and oversee work for major, long-term electrical engineering projects, including new facility construction and remodeling
  • Technical Consulting: Provide work oversight to contractors and vendors; review schematics and make recommendations for equipment selection and design
  • Operational Support: Support Maintenance, Facilities, and Automation teams by troubleshooting instruments, controls, and utility systems (including fire protection).
  • Compliance & Documentation: Collaborate with engineering staff to prepare controlled documents for commissioning and validation in accordance with cGMP guidelines
  • Continuous Improvement: Research and test new electrical apparatus and assist management in developing electrical design standards
