The Principal Business Systems Analyst takes a leadership role in evaluating business processes and systems to optimize efficiency and effectiveness across the organization. Leveraging deep expertise, this role identifies and implements advanced solutions, partnering closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to gather complex requirements, analyze intricate data, and produce comprehensive documentation and system specifications. The Principal Business Systems Analyst drives communication between business users and IT teams to ensure technology solutions align strategically with organizational goals, while supporting product delivery through requirements for IT development projects using interviews, story mapping, storyboarding, workflow analysis, process analysis, and observation sessions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience working with development and systems teams as a Lead Business Systems Analyst
  • Ability to perform complex, high-impact work with broad independence and sound judgment
  • Strong skills in requirements elicitation, documentation, and translating needs into clear deliverables for technical teams
  • Ability to analyze complex business processes and multi-platform systems, including databases, to bridge business needs and technical solutions
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with practical and innovative approaches to business challenges
  • Clear stakeholder communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information in an understandable way
  • Strong documentation skills to produce workflows, specifications, reports, manuals, and other artifacts
  • Ability to manage tasks, timelines, and resources to support successful project delivery
  • High proficiency with technology including SQL, Toad, MS Access, Excel, and/or SharePoint
  • Strong knowledge of Agile development, including experience with Jira and Confluence

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience with Agile principles preferred
  • Prior production support and troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Experience as a QA or Developer preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration in an Agile environment to gather, document, and manage requirements for software development projects
  • Translate business needs into user stories and supporting artifacts, ensuring alignment with project goals and shared understanding across stakeholders and development teams
  • Conduct complex analysis of current systems and processes to identify improvement opportunities, efficiency gains, and impacts of change
  • Partner with Engineers and Quality Assurance to review requirements, validate functionality, and support delivery outcomes
  • Troubleshoot issues, conduct impact analysis, recommend solutions, and support business queries, particularly during major incidents
  • Review and socialize system enhancements with project stakeholders, ensuring solutions align with high-level technology and organizational objectives
  • Create and maintain documentation such as flow diagrams, workflows, specifications, reports, and manuals outlining system and technical solutions
  • Coach and mentor other Analysts; lead the COE for the Analyst community within the value stream
  • Collaborate with Architects and System Analysts to solve complex business problems and contribute to future application roadmaps focused on scalability and resiliency
  • Stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in business analysis and Agile methodologies, influencing discipline standards and practices
