Primary Therapist
About The Position
The Behavioral Health Clinician (Primary Therapist) provides comprehensive outpatient mental health services to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This role establishes a safe, therapeutic environment; completes diagnostic assessments; develops treatment plans; and provides evidence-based individual and group therapy. The clinician collaborates with clients, families, and an interdisciplinary care team to support recovery and illness management. This position also participates in the on-call rotation to provide mental health crisis evaluations for Finger Lakes Health Emergency Departments.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Nursing, Art Therapy, or Psychology.
- New York State license in one of the following: Mental Health Counseling Social Work Nursing Creative Arts Therapy
- Valid NYS Driver’s License meeting FLH policy standards.
- BLS certification via RQI during clinical orientation.
- CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
- 1 year of experience in a mental health or hospital setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong judgment, flexibility, accountability, and reliability.
- Ability to meet departmental productivity standards.
- Professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Computer literacy.
Nice To Haves
- PhD in a related discipline.
- 3 years of mental health experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.
