The Primary Charge Nurse assists in overseeing and directing the business of the unit within the shift to meet the needs of the patients and care team. This role is responsible for patient flow and throughput, ensuring processes and resources are optimized to meet patient needs. The Primary Charge Nurse serves as a role model for customer service, patient care standards, and professional relationships. They determine work priorities, prepare daily work assignments, and act as a resource person for unit personnel in resolving operational and patient care problems. The position requires working at the highest level of licensure by providing quality competent care, following best practice standards, working to achieve care goals and quality outcomes, and adhering to standards of care set by the state boards of nursing.
