About The Position

The Primary Care Physician will provide comprehensive medical care to eligible Veterans at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. The physician will deliver preventive, acute, and chronic care while working within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. This role focuses primarily on direct patient care (approximately 90%) with additional administrative and care coordination responsibilities.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
  • Ability to obtain VA credentialing and privileging
  • DEA registration
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Physicians must maintain current training including (or obtain during onboarding): BLS or ACLS (preferred) Infection control Patient safety training HIPAA and privacy compliance training VA mandatory training modules

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary care services to Veterans in an outpatient setting.
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, COPD, heart failure, and other common conditions.
  • Perform preventive care services, including: Immunizations Cancer screenings Health maintenance evaluations
  • Conduct mental health screenings for conditions such as depression, PTSD, and substance use disorders.
  • Evaluate and treat urgent medical concerns.
  • Serve as a clinical leader within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).
  • Coordinate care with: Specialists Social workers Pharmacists Mental health providers Community care providers
  • Manage referrals, consults, and follow-up care.
  • Provide patient education on: Nutrition Exercise Smoking cessation Alcohol use
  • Utilize VA electronic health record tools to monitor preventive care compliance.
  • Document all patient encounters in the VA electronic health record system.
  • Complete evaluation and management coding for each patient encounter.
  • Follow all VA policies related to patient safety, privacy, and quality of care.
  • Participate in staff meetings and clinical discussions.
  • Follow all VA clinical standards and national practice guidelines.
  • Communicate test results and treatment plans to patients and referring providers.
