About The Position

The part-time Malden Prevention & Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and managing school-based prevention initiatives and coordinating with citywide efforts under the Strategic Prevention Framework–Partnerships for Success (SPF-PFS) grant. This part-time role supports efforts to reduce youth substance use, improve school-based prevention programming, enhance caregiver education, and strengthen community-wide prevention strategies. The Coordinator will collaborate with schools, community organizations, public health agencies, and local stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of evidence-based programs and policy initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on youth and community health in Malden through evidence-based prevention and outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, social work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience in program coordination, youth substance use prevention, or community outreach.
  • Strong ability to engage with diverse stakeholders including middle and high school students, school administrators, community leaders, and public health professionals.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based prevention strategies and youth development frameworks.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in coalition building, program development, and project management.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including those experiencing economic insecurity or systemic inequities.
  • Strong understanding of social determinants of health and public health frameworks.
  • Excellent community engagement, relationship-building, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to inform program development and decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and data visualization tool.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate prevention strategies in Malden’s schools and community, ensuring alignment with grant objectives.
  • Support implementation of evidence-based curricula (including HealthSmart and iDecide), ensuring proper training and fidelity to program models.
  • Distribute educational materials to school staff, caregivers, and youth to raise awareness of vaping and substance use risks.
  • Support the school counseling department to ensure high-risk students are connected to appropriate resources.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Malden Public Schools, local organizations, and the Malden Opioid Task Force.
  • Recruit and train community leaders, educators, and youth-serving organization staff to facilitate prevention workshops.
  • Organize and lead biannual community forums on substance use prevention strategies with stakeholders including law enforcement, public health professionals, and school personnel.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with at least five community-based organizations to expand prevention programming and outreach.
  • Coordinate training for school health educators on the HealthSmart curriculum to enhance substance use prevention education.
  • Provide ongoing training and technical assistance to school staff, social workers, and healthcare professionals on prevention best practices.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops for caregivers to improve communication with youth and promote family-based prevention strategies.
  • Conduct needs assessments in Malden’s middle and high schools to identify vaping and substance use trends.
  • Track program effectiveness by collecting and analyzing data (e.g., Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) results, school discipline records, caregiver feedback).
  • Work with Project Evaluators to develop an evaluation system to monitor prevention impact, with a goal of reducing vaping-related school incidents by 40% over five years.
  • Prepare progress reports and presentations for stakeholders, grant funders, and city leadership to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Collaborate with city officials and community leaders to develop long-term funding strategies for prevention initiatives.
  • Assist in creating sustainable policies that integrate prevention programming into Malden Public Schools and local government operations.
  • Develop outreach materials to engage the community in prevention efforts.
