About The Position

The Prevention Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based prevention strategies that promote healthy behaviors and reduce risk factors within this community. This role focuses on education, outreach, coalition-building, and supporting programs that address issues such as substance misuse, mental heealth, suicide prevention, violence prevention and other public health priorities. The Prevention Specialist works collaboratively with schools, agencies, families, and community organizations to create safe and supportive environments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (HiSet, GED)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Allied Health or related field
  • Certified Prevention Specialist or ability to obtain

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver evidence-based prevention programs, workshops, and presentations to youth, families, and adults
  • Assist in the implementation of strategic prevention plans aligned with local, state, tribal, or federal guidelines
  • Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness of prevention resources and services
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with local schools, community groups, tribal programs, health departments, and social service agencies
  • Participate in wellness coalitions, task forces, and advisory meetings to support prevention efforts
  • Help organize community events, campaigns, and activities that promote healthy lifestyles
  • Assist with surveys, needs assessments, and data collection to identify risk and protective factors
  • Monitor program outcomes and prepare reports documenting participation, progress, and program impact
  • Use data to guide program development and community education efforts
  • Provide training on prevention topics such as substance misuse, mental health awareness, suicide prevention, bullying prevention, resilience, and emotional well-being
  • Facilitate curriculum-based groups and classroom sessions as needed
  • Advocate for policies, practices, and resources that improve community health and safety
  • Connect individuals and families with appropriate support services and resources when needed
  • Promote cultural awareness, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned
