About The Position

Northern Ohio Recovery Association (NORA), a nonprofit organization committed to promoting long-term recovery and wellness through peer-based support and evidence-based treatment services, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Prevention Specialist. This role will be responsible for supporting the delivery of evidence-based prevention programs and community outreach initiatives at NORA. This role focuses on implementing prevention strategies that promote mental, emotional, and behavioral wellness and reduce the risk of substance misuse. The Prevention Specialist engages directly with youth, families, and community partners to build awareness, teach life skills, and strengthen protective factors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience in prevention, education, or human services may substitute.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must begin working toward Ohio Prevention Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of prevention principles and risk/protective factors.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with youth and families.
  • Organized, dependable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm for community engagement and health promotion.
  • Willing to participate in prevention and behavioral health training.

Nice To Haves

  • Prevention certification (OCPSA or working toward OCPS).
  • Experience facilitating youth programs, classroom instruction, or community education.
  • Strong communication and group facilitation skills with youth and adults.
  • Ability to adapt materials for different learning styles and cultural backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based prevention curricula and implementation fidelity.
  • Experience with data collection, reporting, or survey administration.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation, scheduling, and presentation preparation.
  • Knowledge of community resources related to behavioral health, youth engagement, or substance use prevention.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills (Spanish preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Implement evidence-based prevention programs and activities in schools, community settings, and other designated environments.
  • Deliver engaging presentations and workshops promoting healthy decision-making and substance misuse prevention.
  • Support planning, scheduling, and coordination of prevention events and outreach activities.
  • Collect and maintain data, attendance records, and documentation required for program evaluation.
  • Assist in preparing reports and surveys that measure program effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Promote culturally relevant and inclusive prevention approaches tailored to the populations served.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and community coalitions related to prevention.
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and compliance with agency policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
