About The Position

The Prevention and Intervention Coordinator is responsible for supporting the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice's mission to provide high-quality, evidence-based prevention and intervention services to youth in the community. This role ensures TASC sites implement approved programming, including initiatives such as, Lunch Buddies, Project Adopt-a-Class, and Choices, while maintaining accurate documentation and accountability. The coordinator serves as a liaison between TASC sites, County Office staff, and the Community Services Branch, facilitating communication, conducting site visits, supporting program quality, and promoting youth engagement. Through proactive planning, technical assistance, and monitoring, the Prevention and Intervention Coordinator foster positive outcomes for youth, ensures compliance with agency policies, and contributes to the continuous improvement of prevention and intervention services.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
  • The candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication skills, excellent presentation skills, and the ability to successfully train others.
  • The candidate will be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The candidate will have the ability to mobilize community resources and employ imagination and creativity in the application of duties.
  • Drive and travel statewide as needed, with a willingness to work evening hours, as necessary.
  • Lifts up to 25 lbs.
  • Performs job duties in schools, office spaces, community settings, specialized juvenile facilities or institutions.
  • This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree and three years working experience with restorative intervention and prevention projects. Experience in juvenile justice administration, volunteer administration, program development and victim services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees volunteer coordination by ensuring TASC Site Directors submit volunteer paperwork directly to Volunteer Services and CC the Prevention Coordinator on all correspondence.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of volunteer orientation completion through provided reports or email confirmations.
  • Supports and monitors the implementation of approved Prevention and Intervention programs, including but not limited to Lunch Buddies, Project Adopt-a-Class, Choices, and similar youth-focused initiatives.
  • Ensures programs are delivered consistently, aligns with agency objectives, and promotes positive outcomes for youth.
  • Provides guidance to TASC Site Directors and County Office staff on program expectations and verifies that activities are documented appropriately.
  • Conducts in-person site visits on alternating schedules to verify that all TASC sites are implementing approved programming.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of programming activities, including rosters, dates, times, and topics, whether the PIES initiative is utilized.
  • Serves as the communication link between TASC sites and the Prevention and Intervention by collecting monthly calendars that include events, closures, field trips, and programming days.
  • Ensures that relevant information, including event invitations and updates, is shared with County Office staff as appropriate.
  • Strengthens Referral Process-Works collaboratively with County Office staff to enhance and streamline the referral process to SCDJJ Teen Afterschool Centers (TASC) within assigned region. This includes identifying and addressing barriers to referrals, providing regular feedback, and training to County Office staff, and developing strategies to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the referral process to ensure that eligible youth are connected with appropriate TASC programs.
  • Sets referral goals for each county office and submits information to the Prevention and Intervention Director.
  • Coordinates and conducts quarterly meetings with County Managers-individually or regionally-via email, TEAMS, or in person. Leads one-in-person regional County Office training annually in partnership with a neighboring region, incorporating discussions on referrals, prevention programming, and in collaboration with CRC staff.
  • Conducts Regional TASC Trainings each July to review new fiscal year expectations.
  • Identifies and submits two new potential TASC sites per fiscal year for vetting consideration, ensuring all required information (site details, justification, and bid confirmation) is provided.
  • Supports site quality and expansion by assessing suitability and readiness for partnership.
  • Maintains updated outlook calendars, submits volunteer for billing information during quarterly billing, and ensures timely completion of HUB reports.
  • Utilizes effective time management strategies to plan site visits, trainings, and reporting deadlines in advance, ensuring consistent communication and program compliance.
  • HUB reports are due on October 18th, January 17th, April 18th, and June 30th. This reporting requirement ensures ongoing accountability, provides insights into program reach and effectiveness, and informs leadership of county office initiatives and regional trends.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
