About The Position

Responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of activities essential to the delivery of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse Prevention and Violence Prevention Services (Pre-school through grade 12) and participating in public relations, community outreach, and marketing events.

Requirements

  • BS/BA Education; certified at the Pre-school through Secondary Level.
  • Preferably three (3) years experience in teaching, counseling, or human service at the Pre-school through 12th grade level.
  • Knowledgeable in current ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs) and/or violence prevention processes.
  • Travel required throughout Westmoreland and surrounding counties to deliver services.
  • A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License is required.
  • Current Act 34 & 151 Clearances.
  • Ability to be flexible with work hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Education or associated discipline desired.
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) certification desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct ATOD prevention services to students in pre-school, elementary, and secondary schools. These services involve teaching ATOD and Violence Prevention in-class lessons, and/or other activities assigned by the Prevention Education and Community Outreach Services Manager.
  • Assist teachers, administrators, and other school personnel in the implementation, ongoing support, and follow-up of the Saint Vincent College Prevention Projects Prevention Education Services. This may include meetings with educators after the school day, curriculum consultation, and planning other in-school prevention activities.
  • Assist in the design and development of ATOD and Violence Prevention lessons, props, workshops, and special trainings that support program objectives.
  • Assist in the development, timely collection, and tabulation of program and training evaluation materials.
  • Develop and provide prevention information and materials to parent groups/associations and community coalitions/organizations. Fulfilling this responsibility may require hours beyond the normal workday.
  • Work to obtain and/or maintain professional credentials (e.g. CPS) through trainings, workshops and staff development events.
  • Keep current with changes in the field and maintain skills and knowledge relevant to drug and alcohol prevention, conflict resolution, and violence prevention fields through reading, by attending workshops, and through interaction with other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate program reporting and billing data as required (e.g. population supported, audiences served, hours, activities, etc.).
  • Input required data entry information regarding school services (e.g. on-line data entry).
  • Assist in design of workshops and training sessions for school or other professionals.
  • Participate in presentation of seminars, workshops for school or other professionals.
  • Attend Prevention Specialists’ staff meetings and provide professional/personal input to program strategies as appropriate.
  • Responsible for use, maintenance, and return of program materials (including props, AV’s, puppets, equipment, manuals, etc.).
  • Participate in public relations, community outreach, and marketing efforts.
  • Respond professionally and appropriately to all service recipients and funding sources.
  • Maintain an overall positive work attitude, promoting cooperation and professionalism in interactions with other staff members.
  • Attend meetings, internal and external, and other related duties as may be assigned or required by Executive Director or Prevention Education and Community Outreach Services Manager.
