About The Position

The Prevention and Education Assistant is responsible for promoting HIV/AIDS education through community events and in small group settings, and for performing counseling and testing services. The Prevention and Education Assistant must also perform a set of educational activities to assist clients on how to reduce to risk of HIV infection. These activities include: individual HIV prevention, using treatment as prevention (PrEP for clients and partners), group intervention, education of basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions, education about treatment adherence and education on health coverage options.

Requirements

  • Must have a 2-year Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization or a strong desire to work in service driven environment.

  • Flexibility, as our services are available to a large geographic area in the state of Kentucky, which may require some travel
  • Valid Driver’s License with at least three (3) years driving experience and less than two (2) moving violations in the past three (3) years.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background test.
  • Must be able to communicate in both written and verbal form
  • Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine documentation and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Intermediate computer skills are essential in use of an electronic medical record.
  • Must be detail oriented, have ability to multi-task and possess great interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with communities within Matthew 25’s service area, specifically focused on rural areas, to establish new relationships.
  • Remain knowledgeable of all relevant CDC information regarding HIV, PrEP, and Hepatitis C.
  • Maintain departmental fluidity with cross-training.
  • Ensure programmatic growth by identifying new PrEP and Hepatitis C referrals.
