About The Position

To lead, plan, educate, coordinate and expedite the work of promoting, maintaining and improving community health, choices and behaviors by providing public health information/education; in areas including but not limited to; cancer awareness, diabetes trainings, suicide/mental health initiatives, nutrition and other medical health initiatives. They are responsible to work with community members, Kalispel Tribal departments, and other agencies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Must have at least six months of related social services experience.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and Level 3 clearance through the Kalispel Tribal Gaming Agency.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for automobile insurance under the Kalispel Tribe.
  • HIV/Aids training at the time of hire or within 90 days of employment.
  • 1st Aid/CPR certification at the time of hire or within 90 days of employment.
  • TB Test at the time of hire or within 90 days of employment.
  • Must pass a state-mandated background check prior to having unsupervised access to children.
  • Must pass a pre-employment urinalysis.
  • Must comply with strict ethics: These include non-discriminatory practices, proper behavior toward others and integrity in their actions.
  • Ability to acquire or obtain CPP (Certified Prevention Professional) within one year of appointment.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with an American Indian Tribal population preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Camas Medical Clinic to provide public health education.
  • Organize, design and have regular meetings to schedule activities and public health trainings for various groups in the community, to include: cancer awareness, diabetes, STD, nutrition and mental health education awareness and other medical health education initiatives.
  • Coordinates with the community, tribal leadership and external partners to address tribal health issues and health disparities.
  • Involve, educate, and provide leadership activities for community youth programs and school district.
  • Plans prevention activities, community events, trainings and conferences for the youth, families and elders.
  • Coordinates with the Camas Path Behavioral Health in developing and providing responsible gambling education tools for the Northern Quest Casino.
  • Coordinates with the Camas Path Wellness Center to provide community health needs assessments to determine the impacts and outcomes of services provided.
  • Attends various community meetings relevant to prevention component of the Camas Path public health system.
  • Prepares public health information advertisements, displays and newsletter for the community and employees.
  • Contacts and recruits volunteers for activities.
  • Prepares letters, reports, budgets and notices as needed.
  • Files and organizes prevention materials; Shops and places orders for supplies for prevention activities.
  • Communicates directly with supervisor regarding calendar, events and update on job duties.
  • Places and answers phone calls as well as other office duties necessary.
  • Adhere to all applicable tribal, federal, or state privacy laws and regulations, including but not limited HIPPA and 42 CFR Part 2.
