JOB SUMMARY The primary function of the Preventative Maintenance Tech is to inspect, maintain, and repair buses that run on gasoline, diesel, electricity, or alternative fuels such as propane. Perform preventative maintenance repairs to buses. SUPERVISION Close Supervision- Employee is assigned duties according to specific procedures. Work is checked frequently, and in addition, there may be formal training. Most assignments are completed and checked and signed off by a Supervisor.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One to two years minimum related experience preferred.
Possess and maintain a NYS class D drivers license.
Working knowledge of modern automotive maintenance methods and procedures including the proper and safe use of general automotive repair tools, equipment and of lubrications and their proper use.
Perform skilled automotive repair work involving the use of specialized tools, instruments and equipment.
Ability to use some independent judgment and initiative to continue training in the latest knowledge and techniques of the trade.
Ability to diagnose the source of a problem quickly and accurately.
Ability to understand oral and written instructions sufficiently to follow supervisor instructions and work orders.
Ability to write or type sufficiently to maintain automotive certifications, make notes on work orders.
Ability to perform numeric calculations is necessary for diagnostic testing on vehicles.
Ability to perform some computer diagnostics and tests.
Ability to understand when added assistance is required.

Nice To Haves

CDL B license preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs basic preventive maintenance work on buses to required standards.
Performs necessary inspection and basic repairs to bring vehicles into compliance.
Prepares buses for DOT inspection.
Maintains and repairs all electrical components, such as directional lights, safety warning, lights, starting and charging systems.
Troubleshoots vehicles in need of repair, including electrical troubleshooting.
Installs vehicle repair components.
Replaces exterior engine components.
Performs brake pulls on buses.
Follow all prescribed safety methods and perform work safely.
Perform other duties as assigned.
