About The Position

This position involves supervising the activities of the Pre-Trial Release Unit, which provides services to pretrial defendants under departmental supervision. Key responsibilities include risk assessment, court updates, and coordination between treatment providers and collaborative team members. The supervisor will manage approximately fifteen (15) non-exempt staff members and oversee services for generally 1000 defendants annually, with about 150 defendants processed daily during intake.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Law, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Business Management, Public Administration, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Education, or in a job related field of study.
  • Three (3) years of professional work related experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of standard software applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of correctional casework, management.
  • Must be physically able to perform “natural defense response techniques”.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of all applicable federal, state and local rules, regulations and standards.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation.
  • Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.
  • Possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment (due to working with defendants who may have committed dangerous/aggressive acts).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Pre-Trial Release Officers, by planning, organizing, staffing, training, leading and controlling all activities to ensure effective quality service delivery, supervision and direction and that the health, safety and equipment needs of staff and defendants are met.
  • Oversees the assignment of cases by maintaining an equitable caseload/workload balance, determining, scheduling and prioritizing assignments and conducting administrative hearings to ensure that high standards of rehabilitative serves are provided; audits case files and provides training based on findings.
  • Participates in staff and management meetings, task forces and committees to assist in information sharing, planning and problem solving, and participates in in-service training sessions.
  • Develops implements and evaluates strategic plans, policies and procedures to accomplish goals.
  • Develops, collects, maintains and interprets statistical data and other information systems to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of personnel and other available resources.
  • Communicates with court Judges, court clerks, attorneys, members of the District Attorney’s Office, police and community leaders for the purpose of information sharing, problem solving and positive public relations and resource building.
  • May serve as backup to other Pre-trial Intake Supervisor and assume all duties as necessary, i.e., supervision of pretrial defendants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
