About The Position

The Office of Governor Josh Stein is seeking a Press Secretary to help communicate the Governor’s priorities of building a safer, stronger North Carolina. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player passionate about strategic communication across markets across the state. The position is located in Raleigh and will require travel across the state.

Requirements

• 3-4 years of experience in government, campaigns, or issue-based advocacy
• A car and a valid driver’s license
• Willingness to work irregular hours as needed
• Experience collaborating and being proactive
• Experience working with reporters, preferably in North Carolina
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and organization

Responsibilities

• Acting as the main point of contact for media inquiries, fostering relationships with journalists and media outlets
• Organizing and coordinating press conferences and other public-facing events, including preparing materials, coordinating with speakers, and staffing the Governor at events
• Supporting the communications department of various North Carolina cabinet agencies
• Managing the deputy press secretary
• Other administrative responsibilities to support the communications team
