SCOPE: Under the direction of the supervisor, workers perform production, maintenance or janitorial duties as assigned to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery, yield and Cost goals. Each operator is responsible for and has the necessary authority to ensure quality, including stopping production to correct quality non-conformance. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: Uses appropriate safety measures Uses appropriate measurement equipment and techniques as trained Records and maintains documentation and data as required. Follows applicable work instructions. Uses good housekeeping skills to maintain the work area. Follows directions and instructions of all supervisory personnel. maintains good relations with co-workers, management and visitors. Performs other duties as assigned. PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION: Works on press table for one hour then shim pusher for on hour, alternating every hour during the shift. Inspect each extruded tube for quality and transfers tubes from the press runout to the tube reducer table or storage bins. Separates the dummy block from the shim and discards shim to conveyor, recycle dummy block and clean out disc to proper chutes, removes billet slug from tank and into conveyor every extrusion. SECONDARY JOB FUNCTION: Keeps proper quality records, adjusts water level in quench tank, straighten tubes by hand whenever possible, take primary responsibility for clearing jam-ups on the runout table, color code rejected tubes. Assist relief man in changing mandrels, removes cold billets. Account for dummy clock and clean out every cycle or activate emergency stop. Hand lubrication of mandrel and die when the automatic oiler is not functioning JOB DESCRIPTION: Check and adjust water level in quench before start-up and during shift. Inspect each tube for blisters, scratches, and eccentricity. Maintain Quality Log on all tubes. Notify press operator when crane service is required. Direct crane operator during the transfer operation. Notify press operator of jam-ups. Straighten tubes by hand when necessary. Keep supply of slings on rack provided. Maintain a neat, clean and orderly work area. Follow all safety rules and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned by the press operator or Converting Mill supervisor. Responsible for tube straightness in storage bins and base tube storage racks. Keep tube reducer loaded. Check workstation at shift start for need of hoppers. Notify press operator if hopper is needed. Remove shims, dummy blocks, and cleanout discs from discharge bucket every cycle of the extrusion press along with removing billet slug from discharge tank and notify operator immediately when one of the four items do not appear every cycle of the extrusion press. Account for the number of dummy blocks and clean-out at the end of each shift. Put away dummy blocks to the heater at the end of the shift if the following shift is not running. Dislodge billet jammed in billet heaters, dummy block and clean out discs in storage system. Notify press operator of any malfunction in the billet loader system. Tag each lift of base when moved to rack storage. Make sure off analysis and filed stock is identified with proper color code.
