About The Position

At Jowonio, our Teacher Aide Substitutes are pivotal in fostering an environment where all children, regardless of their abilities, thrive. Be part of a team that ensures every child realizes their full potential. Work only when school is in session – we follow the Syracuse City School District calendar. School-day hours with student dismissal at 2:30 M, T, Th, F and 12:30 Wed. No nights or weekends! Paid time off (PTO) accrues for both full-time and part-time staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Experience with young children and/or children with diverse abilities
• Sensitivity and understanding in diverse settings
• Confidentiality and discretion
• Independent and team-oriented work ethic
• High motivation and enthusiasm
• Effective verbal communication
• Frequent movement throughout the school building, including classrooms and playground areas.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to engage in floor-level and outdoor interactions with young children.
• Sufficient vision and hearing to observe, communicate, and maintain safety within a classroom and community setting.
• Capacity to manage occasional high-stress situations calmly and professionally, including crisis intervention or emergency response.

Responsibilities

• Foster positive relationships with children.
• Ensure safe and engaging learning environments, providing consistent supervision, being alert to safety concerns, and responding quickly and calmly to ensure the safety of all.
• Collaborate in classroom planning and activities.
• Document and track student progress.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with both parents and colleagues.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the needs of the classroom and school.
