About The Position

The Preschool Camp Assistant will support the teaching staff in implementing camp programs. The incumbent will assist with carrying out the preschool camp mission and values by providing high quality preschool services to children and parents that focus on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. This job description represents the major functions of the position but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The incumbent is also responsible for completing projects or preforming duties deemed necessary for the Mankato YMCA’s success.

Requirements

  • Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 Aide qualifications, including yearly in service requirements.
  • CPR, First Aid, and other training required by the Department of Human Services (YMCA will provide this training upon hire).
  • A commitment to working with children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on their lives.
  • Excellent skills in assistant teaching, oral communication, written communication, interpersonal communications and human relations.
  • Ability to work with children one-on-one or in small groups without assistance.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Never been convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).
  • Perform all physical aspects of the position, including running, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • The ability to calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Assists in supervising the children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Assists with maintaining the preschool room and equipment.
  • Contributes to activity preparation and clean up and room maintenance.
  • Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings , and staff trainings.
  • Assists with maintaining required program records.
  • Observes DHS Rule 3 regulations for a Licensed Child Care Center.
  • Follow all YMCA policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention.
