About The Position

INTERVENTIONIST JOB GOAL: Provide targeted small group in instruction through "push-in" or "pull-out" models based on student data. Responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance. INSTRUCTIONAL COACH JOB GOAL: The Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the Instructional Coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to MA Curriculum Frameworks, district curriculum standards, and data driven instruction. An Instructional Coach is a teacher leader who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. All Instructional Coaches work collaboratively as a team with teachers, interventionists, Principals, and Directors. Instructional Coaches will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern based on data and research-based educational practices. They are responsible for supporting high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides targeted small-group reading and math instruction based on student learning goals and aligned with MA Curriculum Frameworks student data.
  • Analyzes student data to establish student learning targets and goals through the intervention cycle.
  • Responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and learning styles of students.
  • Works with Building Principals, CIA Leads and Director of Curriculum to implement the Title I Targeted Assistance/Intervention Program and prepares assessments, plans and reports, as required.
  • Provides support for the Title I Targeted Assistance/Intervention Program and works with paraprofessionals and classroom teachers in coordinating reading and math support.
  • Helps facilitate the transition of elementary students to the middle level in terms of reading and math support services.
  • Keeps parents informed of students' progress. Interacts regularly with parents and parental support groups.
  • Plans and coordinates events in conjunction with the building principal, Interventionists CIA Leads and Curriculum Director.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the district grade-level standards-based curriculum and varied assessments, the MA Curriculum Frameworks, and data analysis.
  • Communicate and demonstrate research based, culturally responsive practices that result in increased student performance and improved classroom environment
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, interventionists, paraprofessionals, administrators, and other Curriculum & Instruction Leads.
  • Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and research-based, culturally responsive practices.
  • Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Help ensure consistency and seamless transitions of programming and instruction among and between grade levels
  • Facilitate and coordinate grade-level curriculum design, development, and documentation to be maintained in District Curriculum Google Drive.
  • Assist teachers in understanding the District mission, vision,core values, and strategic plan.
  • Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings.
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of units/lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of all students.
  • Support teachers by helping with the strategic "how" of teaching. Share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers.
  • Instruct and support teachers with curriculum software products, and classroom/curriculum related technologies
  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher's professional growth and students' success.
  • Develop staff members' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
  • Utilize Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice.
  • Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
  • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
  • Design and provide ongoing Professional Development.
  • Participate as a learner in professional development.
  • Attend summer training sessions.
  • Facilitate Universal Screening and grade-level data analysis at least 3 times per year
  • Provide tutorials/supports for parents/caretakers integrating district instructional technology tools that students use at home
  • Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings
  • Maintain a digital daily/weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
  • Create an articulated schedule with building & district administration.
  • Provide timely and consistent communication between teachers and administration.
  • Perform related duties as directed by the building principals and/or the Director of Curriculum
