About The Position

They are seeking a Preconstruction Developer for the Upstate New York area to support Trane Technologies Energy Services, a challenging and fast-growing field. This role involves collaborating with internal teams and customers to identify and develop turnkey design-build contracting projects, including scope of work development, cost estimating, and proposal support for an industry-leading Energy Services Company (ESCO). The Preconstruction Developer is responsible for Acquisition Support of both Design-Build Turnkey and Energy Services Contracting project work, requiring mastery of acquisition, technical aptitude, and project management skills.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Project Management and/or HVACR related work experience required.
  • Working knowledge of all facets of construction including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems and knowledge with the operation of HVAC systems, electrical systems and temperature controls.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required, including some travel with occasional overnight stays.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Carless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, evaluates, and discusses possible turnkey HVAC solutions with Account Manager, Project Manager, Sub-contractor, Supplier, and/or customer.
  • Collects project data needed to assemble turnkey project scope and estimate.
  • Utilizes plans, specifications, and knowledge of construction industry to analyze project needs and compiles detailed cost estimates.
  • Supports Account Managers in developing and establishing project installation budgets and preparing the sub-contractor request for quotation’s (RFQ) including: scope statements; plans and milestone dates; specs; permitting and bonding requirements.
  • Responsible for creating cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities to assist Account Managers in bidding on or determining price of project.
  • Responsible for the take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
  • Able to communicate, schedule, analyze information, and take responsibility for estimating duties.
  • Review bid documents for potential conflicts and constructability issues.
  • Communicate with customer, subcontractors, engineers, and designers on changes or adjustments for estimates and ensure all project needs are met.
  • Provide key technical support in pursuit of Trane business, including participation on strategic job acquisition teams.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining subcontractor relations, along with evaluating and categorizing subcontractors.
  • Assist and support all efforts of acquisition and customer satisfaction.
  • Some travel required; other duties as assigned.
