About The Position

IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position. This occupation requires the precision layout, masking, chemfilming, etching, and anodizing of flight hardware and ground support equipment. Perform operations verification to assure that documentation, hardware, and processes conform to engineering requirements. Determine that surfaces are in proper condition to be processed. Perform operations required to clean and coat surfaces to meet blueprint, Company and Government specifications. Determine work load processing priorities. Measure critical dimensions to determine tolerances available for the specified chemical process. Determine area of surfaces to be processed by obtaining information from blueprints or similar documents and calculating area as required for various shapes such as triangles, circles, cones, etc. Using available current density specification information, determine time and current necessary to obtain required thickness of coating and process following established specifications and procedures. Perform other similar electrolytic anodizing or surface treatment processes. Add chemicals as required per written directions following good shop practice relative to chemical processing. May assist other shop personnel as required. Use operations verification to assure manufacturing processes have been completed to requirements. Rework items that do not meet specifications by reactivating the process or stripping to substrate and reprocessing. Stamp or otherwise approve acceptable items, reject unacceptable items and prepare them for disposition. When processing problems occur, perform minor in-process testing to establish causes for defective coating. Utilize appropriate devices for processing data related to hardware buy off, conformance verification, discrepancy reporting, deviations and traceability. Recommend improvements for product quality, cost, efficiency, processes, tooling and other factors affecting quality and productivity in the work place. Input measurement data to control charts and interpret process compliance to statistical verification. Follow Corrective Action and Preventative Action Matrices to keep the process in control. Qualification for this classification will require the successful completion of a practical skills demonstration of the Work Performed in this classification.
