About The Position

To create an age-appropriate pre-kindergarten and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth of pupils; to motivate pupils to develop speech abilities, attitudes, skills, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for future participation in the total school program, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Requirements

  • Kentucky Elementary Teaching Certificate which includes Kindergarten endorsement
  • Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Current CPR and basic first aid certification

  • Organizes, creates, and operates the preschool classroom.
  • Provides parent involvement opportunities and works individually with parents of children on child development and individual child progress.
  • Observes and records child behavior; uses appropriate child assessment tools with training; prepares requested parts of an educational report.
  • Adapts the learning environment using recommendations from professionals (occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech/language therapist, etc.); implements IEP goals.
  • Directs the activities of instructional assistants in the classroom.
  • Provides learning experiences in language arts, developmental skills, and other subject matter suited to the needs of the pupils.
  • Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities.
  • Develops in each pupil an awareness of his worth as an individual and his role in his family and community.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs of pupils in communication skills, health habits, physical skills, and development of satisfactory self-concepts.
  • Communicates regularly with parents by means of parent meetings, home visits, and individual parent conferences.
  • Interprets school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual pupil’s needs and the school’s role in the individual pupil’s life.
  • Helps provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills.
  • Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Administer a pre- and post-test to all participating pre-school students.
  • Receives training for the provision of a needed health service(s).
  • Performs Health Services to meet unique needs of children.
  • Be approved in writing to perform the procedure/service according to instructions.
  • Performs the procedure/service according to instructions.
  • Performs such other professional tasks (within reason) and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the director of the pre-school program or Superintendent.
