Current CPR and basic first aid certification REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Pre-School Coordinator SUPERVISES: N/A JOB GOALS: To create an age-appropriate pre-kindergarten and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth of pupils; to motivate pupils to develop speech abilities, attitudes, skills, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for future participation in the total school program, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members. Organizes, creates, and operates the preschool classroom. B. Provides parent involvement opportunities and works individually with parents of children on child development and individual child progress. C. Observes and records child behavior; uses appropriate child assessment tools with training; prepares requested parts of an educational report. D. Adapts the learning environment using recommendations from professionals (occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech/language therapist, etc.); implements IEP goals. E. Directs the activities of instructional assistants in the classroom. F. Provides learning experiences in language arts, developmental skills, and other subject matter suited to the needs of the pupils. G. Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities. H. Develops in each pupil an awareness of his worth as an individual and his role in his family and community. I. Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs of pupils in communication skills, health habits, physical skills, and development of satisfactory self-concepts. J. Communicates regularly with parents by means of parent meetings, home visits, and individual parent conferences. Interprets school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual pupil’s needs and the school’s role in the individual pupil’s life. K. Helps provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills. L. Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. M. Administer a pre- and post-test to all participating pre-school students. N. 1. Receives training for the provision of a needed health service(s). 2. Performs Health Services to meet unique needs of children. "Health Services" means the provision of direct health care, including the administration of medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or administration of clinical procedures. 3. Be approved in writing to perform the procedure/service according to instructions. 4. Performs the procedure/service according to instructions. O. Performs such other professional tasks (within reason) and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the director of the pre-school program or Superintendent. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
