About The Position

Makkabi Law Group is seeking an experienced Pre-Litigation Attorney to lead case development and maximize client recovery. This is not a passive oversight role. We need an attorney who understands that treatment drives value, who can read and interpret medical records with precision, and who ensures every file is strategically positioned before the demand goes out. You will supervise Auditors and Case Managers within a structured system where file integrity matters, bottlenecks are solved rather than noted, and accountability is standard.

Requirements

  • Active California Bar membership in good standing
  • Minimum 3 years of personal injury experience, with pre-litigation experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze medical records and treatment history at a high level
  • Strong knowledge of injury claims, treatment progression, and demand preparation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with client-facing confidence

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing higher-exposure cases involving injections, surgery, TBI, and spinal injuries
  • Familiarity with lien resolution including Medicare, Medi-Cal, and ERISA subrogation
  • Strong settlement instincts and adjuster negotiation experience
  • Understanding of CRPS indicators and complex pain syndrome identification
  • Experience with case management systems, Filevine preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor treatment progression and prevent case stagnation through the full treatment pipeline: PT/chiro, imaging, specialist consultation, pain management, injections, and surgical evaluation
  • Identify missing injuries, referrals, records, and causation support early, then implement corrections
  • Recognize plateau conditions and trigger appropriate next steps including imaging, specialist referrals, injections, surgical evaluation, neuropsychological evaluation, and functional capacity evaluation
  • Read and interpret medical records with fluency, identifying gaps, inconsistencies, and weak documentation
  • Analyze MRI, CT, and X-ray reports for case value and causation support
  • Ensure complete medical documentation before demand stage, including records, bills, imaging, and specialist reports
  • Treat statute of limitations protection as non-negotiable, ensuring proper calculation for all defendant types including government entities, medical malpractice, and minor tolling
  • Respond to escalations within 48 hours, with critical matters receiving same-day attention
  • Identify policy limit exposure and excess judgment risk for strategic handling
  • Oversee identification and tracking of all lien categories: medical liens, Medicare/Medi-Cal, ERISA subrogation, workers' compensation, and others
  • Develop lien negotiation strategies to protect net client recovery
  • Supervise Auditors in their quality control function over Case Managers, reviewing audit findings weekly
  • Handle routine department issues, shielding the Managing Partner from day-today operational matters
  • Use recurring errors as coaching opportunities and drive process improvement through pattern analysis
  • Approve demands, settlement authority, litigation referrals, and strategic case decisions
  • Ensure compliance with California State Bar communication requirements: client contact every 30 days minimum, significant developments communicated within 7 days
  • Manage high-expectation clients with professionalism, setting appropriate boundaries while delivering attentive service
  • De-escalate client concerns and maintain productive relationships throughout the case lifecycle

Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus performance-based compensation
  • High-quality case volume with strong support staff
  • Structured systems and documented procedures designed for consistent results
  • A firm culture that values quality control, accountability, and professional excellence
