Requirements

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of commonly used office equipment, software, and keyboarding skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record systems.
  • Strong computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Web-based systems.
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills required ability to work independently and to adapt to a fast-changing environment.
  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills with the ability to remain calm, be patient and respond professionally to all requests.
  • Effective organizational and prioritizing skills.
  • Strong problem solving, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Efficient at navigating electronic health records.
  • Ability to effectively navigate multiple projects and work using effective time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to examine medical records and verify patient identification.
  • Ability to examine a document and determine its proper placement within the patient record.
  • Detail oriented and ability to be self-motivated to prioritize and made decisions to complete duties in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain patient and employee confidentiality.
  • Ability to convey accurate details to staff and management.
  • Ability to work independently as well as contribute to the department and team.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and others as appropriate.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of medical clerical experience in a hospital or physician office setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Electronically monitor for and collect various clearances prior to surgery. These could include visits from various specialties (such as Primary Care or Cardiac), Clearance documents from CISH, lab results, or test results.
  • Upload clearances into the appropriate electronic patient record.
  • Notify the appropriate parties when the upload has been completed.
  • Other general clerical duties, special projects, or other duties as assigned.
