About The Position

The Federalist Society, a DC‑based non‑profit organization dedicated to informing the legal and public policy debate on a national level, invites applications for the Practice Groups Fellowship, a competitive and rewarding two-year role supporting the division that develops much of the Society’s national programming. Ideal for an attorney early in his or her legal career looking to establish a network and presence in Washington and gain exposure to a broad range of legal areas, this Fellowship offers unparalleled mentorship opportunities with Society leadership. This role may serve as a stepping stone to launch a career in the conservative and libertarian legal and policy movement. The Fellow will have the opportunity to hone their legal research, analysis, and writing skills and collaborate on the strategy, planning, and execution of a wide variety of Society programming, including the annual National Lawyers Convention. The Practice Groups Fellow will gain first-hand experience convening leading practitioners and scholars for timely debates and discussions of the most pressing legal issues of the day. Strong commitment to the mission and values of The Federalist Society is essential, and a JD is required. Fellows are eligible for health insurance and other benefits enjoyed by our staff.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to think strategically about big picture ideas and direction as well as track and execute the details of plans and proposals
  • Diplomatic, unflappable, and balanced temperament capable of navigating disagreements or resolving unexpected problems
  • Strong commitment to the Federalist Society’s mission and values and an eagerness and ability to stay on top of legal developments in multiple practice areas
  • Ability to network and build relationships across our membership
  • A J.D. is required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in law and public policy is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implement the strategic vision for the Practice Groups, including growth initiatives, new content formats, and improved engagement with members
  • Apply legal expertise and analysis to a wide range of emerging legal issues important to Federalist Society members and the broader conservative and libertarian legal and policy movement
  • Provide high-level guidance on programming priorities, ensuring alignment with Federalist Society priorities, ideological balance, and high-quality discussion
  • Write and develop content drawn from Practice Group activities for Federalist Society legal publications
  • Manage relationships with 22 Practice Group Executive Committees and keep abreast of the legal developments in each field
  • Oversee the planning and execution of Practice Group events, including in-person conferences, luncheons, salon dinners, and panels as well as webinars
