About The Position

The Practice Director, Grid Operations serves as the operational leader for the department, responsible for aligning people, process, and performance to deliver scalable growth, high client satisfaction, and consistent profitability. Acting as the senior operations leader for the business unit, this role drives operational excellence across delivery, workforce planning, talent development, and client engagement while ensuring that strategic goals translate into measurable outcomes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills on professional services projects with an ability to lead and influence teams and clients.
  • Demonstrated success holding project leadership roles on consulting engagements.
  • Demonstrated success identifying and expanding new business by developing relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate complex and ambiguous situations using advanced interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Eight plus years of experience as a System Operator, Dispatcher for electric transmission and/or distribution (e.g., electrical, generator, or grid operations training experience; system operating experience in an energy control center, or electrical generator operator experience).
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability in production deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with diverse groups on a wide range of technical matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay current with changing technology and learning trends.
  • Extensive experience in a consulting or professional services environment, focusing on growth, customer relationship management, and service innovation.
  • Proven track record of leading multiple client engagements, driving revenue growth, establishing and managing successful client relationships, and delivering high-quality consulting services.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated problem-solving abilities in a production/deadline-driven environment.
  • The ability to see multiple points of view and guide diverse teams and clients on a wide range of technical matters.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, foster collaboration, and work through conflict.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively articulate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with ABB, OSI, GE, or Schneider Electric systems and tools.
  • This position requires prior consulting leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operations for the department, ensuring alignment between delivery capacity, sales pipeline, and financial performance targets.
  • Translate strategic objectives into operational plans, KPIs, and measurable results across utilization, margin, client satisfaction, and delivery quality.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, headcount planning, and resource allocation to meet growth and profitability targets.
  • Oversee and continuously improve core operational processes, forecasting, staffing, project governance, reporting, and performance tracking.
  • Drive standardization of delivery methodologies, tools, and templates across projects to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Lead risk identification and mitigation efforts across all active projects and business lines.
  • Proactively gather performance feedback and provide timely coaching focused on development, accountability, and excellence.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, goal setting, and succession planning to ensure depth of leadership and future scalability.
  • Foster a culture of empowerment, collaboration, and continuous learning across consulting and training teams.
  • Identify emerging leaders and create targeted development programs to build next-generation management capability.
  • Champion diversity of thought, experience, and style within the team to drive innovation and engagement.
  • Partner with executive leadership to translate company strategy into operational initiatives for the department.
  • Manage multiple data inputs (pipeline, bookings, hiring plans, utilization trends) to anticipate needs and drive proactive resource planning.
  • Collaborate with Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to integrate Grid Operations and Grid Modernization expertise into scalable delivery frameworks.
  • Lead initiatives to expand service offerings, training programs, and operational capabilities in line with market demand.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, post-project reviews, and process refinements.
  • Promote the department’s brand internally and externally as a leader in Grid Operations excellence.
  • Cascade company communications and lead adoption of change initiatives within the team.
  • Encourage cross-departmental collaboration, knowledge sharing, and unified delivery culture.
  • Represent the department in leadership forums, industry events, and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as an executive sponsor on key client engagements, ensuring alignment between client objectives and delivery execution.
  • Lead strategic conversations with clients to shape future-state business processes and transformation roadmaps.
  • Provide industry expertise to guide the design of “To Be” operational and business process models.
  • Support Client Development in pursuit activities—scoping, estimating, and authoring Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with clients to strengthen trust, retention, and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Partner with Consulting Operations and Training teams to design and deliver effective learning programs and continuous education pathways.
