About The Position

RK&K is seeking a Structures Inspection Practice Leader to lead and expand a well-established condition assessment practice serving infrastructure owners across Virginia and the surrounding region. Building on RK&K's existing structures inspection portfolio and the deep structural engineering expertise of our Structures discipline, this leader will develop a dedicated core of full-time inspection professionals to enhance service quality, technical depth, and delivery efficiency. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise in bridge, tunnel, and ancillary structure inspection with proven leadership capabilities, entrepreneurial drive, and client-first orientation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • PE license (VA required at hire).
  • FHWA/NHI bridge inspection certification (NHI 130055) with current refresher.
  • 12+ years of structural inspection experience.
  • 5+ years in leadership or project management.
  • Strong knowledge of NBIS, AASHTO, SNBI, and state DOT standards.
  • Experience managing multi-project inspection programs across various structure types.
  • Proficiency with bridge management systems and condition data analysis.
  • Understanding of load ratings and fracture critical inspection requirements.
  • Proven business development and client relationship management experience.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and financial management skills.
  • Ability to work in field conditions and travel as needed

Nice To Haves

  • PE licensure in additional states (MD, NC, or ability to obtain).
  • NHI certifications: Fracture Critical (130078), Underwater (130091), Tunnel Inspection (130110).
  • Confined space entry training/certification.
  • Experience with advanced inspection technologies (drones/UAS, GPR, NDT methods).
  • Experience with asset management platforms (e.g., AASHTOWare, Agile Assets, AssetIntel).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the structures inspection practice, including strategy, team development, and service delivery.
  • Establish and enforce inspection procedures, QA/QC standards, and safety protocols (NBIS, FHWA, OSHA compliant).
  • Manage and mentor inspection staff; oversee staffing, performance, and resource planning.
  • Serve in key project roles (PM/Contract Manager/QC Reviewer) ensuring quality, schedule, budget, and compliance.
  • Direct execution of bridge, tunnel, and ancillary structure inspections, including advanced technologies.
  • Oversee development of reports, load ratings, and technical deliverables.
  • Drive business development, client relationships, and proposal efforts.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support and enhance asset management services, including data quality, lifecycle analysis, and capital planning.
