About The Position

Baylor’s Law School is seeking a Practice Court Associate who will support the mission of Baylor University by providing administrative and logistical support for the Practice Court program. A Juris Doctor degree and less than a year of experience required. A Juris Doctor degree and less than two years of experience preferred. Bar admission required/anticipated.

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of Baylor Law’s Practice Court program and an understanding of the quarter system
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow through on projects independently
  • Desire to work in fast-paced environment with a hard-working, dedicated team
  • Frequently moves materials, boxes, and exhibits weighing up to 25 pounds across the school for various needs
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload and handle competing deadlines in a work environment involving a large number of interruptions
  • Ability to analyze and review guidelines, policies and procedures to determine appropriate solutions to problems and/or questions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to work collaboratively
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
  • Willingness to learn new processes and skills, and willingness to complete regular training for all systems used regularly
  • Applications must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • A Juris Doctor degree and less than a year of experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all scheduling for advocacy exercises connected with the Baylor Practice Court program, including the assignment and coordination of schedules for approximately 160-175 students per year, four PC faculty members, half a dozen Legal Writing faculty members, approximately 50 Jaworski Fellows and Candidates, and additional other judges and attorneys participating in the program
  • Serve as the primary initial liaison between Practice Court students and faculty, to address questions and coordinate responses as needed, requiring an in-depth understanding of the objectives, materials, and practices in the program
  • Coordinate the administrative and technical details for the conduct of classes and advocacy exercises in the Practice Court program
  • Track and record grades for the multiple courses and advocacy exercises in the Practice Court program
  • Assist with the Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition and other Baylor Law advocacy competitions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission.
  • Ability to comply with university policies.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
